The stone cottage is significant historically and aesthetically, both for its original form and for the sensitive conservation work that has protected the place in recent times. The significance of the cottage is enhanced by the qualities of the adjoining 'Moyle's Cottage' to the south ,(Site No. 127).
This single storey cottage was a 'duplex' at one time, but has been carefully restored back to its original single cottage form. The plan is a simple rectangle basically one room wide, set well back from the road and with a verandah the full length of the west (rear) elevation. The careful restoration and sympathetic addition of an adjacent studio are excellent examples of how to go about sensitive conservation work.
Said to have belonged to the Griffiths family. Mr Griffith drove a bullock team. Local sources say the cottage has a cellar. (Northampton Historical Society) The land was purchased by Thomas Moyle on 2nd April, 1883, although the house may have existed prior to then. Has been used as a semi-detached and may have been built as such. The Williams family are said to have some association with the property. Uncorroborated hearsay is that Moyles lived at one end and Griffiths at the other. In the late 1880s and early 1890s it was the home of Dan and Maria (Mariah) Thomas. (Source: Barbara Williams)
