The place is significant for its continuous function as a general store in Boyanup since 1923. It represents a sense of place for generations of Boyanup people, as an informal meeting place. The store is an important element in the street scape of the main street of Boyanup, and is an essential contribution to the townscape character of Boyanup.
Timber framed and clad. The dwelling is attached to the shop on the south side.
In 1923 Harold Cope started a general store opposite the post office. In c1923 Crawford Young established an Emporium in Boyanup, after taking over the shop from Copes. It was still the General Store in 1997.
