The Gordon River Hall was built as a result of community pressure from the residents of the district. The principal use for the hall, which was opened in 1922, was for a school. Funds were collected for materials and the hall was built by P H Walter. He was assisted by local settlers. The hall was a school until 1942 and the centre for many social gatherings such as weddings, dances and New Year's Day parties. By the 1970s the Gordon River Hall had fallen into disrepair. The community recognised the need for major restoration work and the hall was re-opened in 1988.
The Gordon River Hall is situated in a clearing surrounded by natural bush. The hall is constructed from timber weatherboard with a gabled corrugated iron roof. The building has an enclosed front porch and wooden sash windows.
