The place is a good example of an attached pair of residences dating from the period of expansion of Fremantle in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The place contributes to a substantially intact late nineteenth and early twentieth century streetscape close to the centre of Fremantle.
Single storey painted brick attached pair built on limestone foundations with a rendered parapet.
Hampton Road was originally called Prison Road. It derives its name from John Stephen Hampton (1810-1869), the Governor of WA from 1862-68. He was previously Comptroller of Convicts in Tasmania. His son, G. E. Hampton, was Acting Comptroller-General of the Fremantle Convict Establishment. Rate Book research was not conclusive in determining an accurate date of construction.
