No heritage significance
No historic fabric remains on site
Metropolitan sewerage map 2081 from 2018 shows a stone house at 40 Grey (later 4 Grey) and a stone duplex on 36 & 38 Grey (later 6 Grey). Historic aerial photographs show that 4 Grey had been demolished by 1965 but 6 Grey Street was photographed by the Fremantle Society in 1979 as part of their survey of historic buildings in Fremantle. The Fremantle Society Survey photograph shows 6 Grey Street has been modified in the Post War era. 6 Grey was demolished by 1989 for the existing two storey brick, terrace houses. The place was added to the Fremantle Municipal Heritage Inventory in 2000 with the management category Historic/ archaeological site and in 2008 it was added to the Heritage List. In a review in 2010 it was recommended that the place be removed from the Heritage List because it was significantly altered and below the threshold for inclusion on the list. In 2023 the heritage listing for this place was reviewed as part of the Annual Update of The Heritage List and Local Heritage Survey. On 13 March 2024 Council resolved to remove this place from the Heritage List and to change the Local Heritage Survey Management Category to Level 4 Historic Record Only.
the site was comprehensively redeveloped in the 1980s so there is little chance that undisturbed archaeological material remains from the earlier houses.
