A simple building pattern of a style commonly in use throughout the settled areas of the colony. It was built on an acre of land donated by S.W. Viveash in 1862, by the concerned settlers of the district and is historically significant as an illustration of an important part of the community life of a country town. It was consecrated by Bishop Hale on 7 May 1862. It is situated on the banks of the Avon River adjacent to the causeway and surrounded by numerous native and introduced trees including four olive trees. There is a graveyard attached - in use into the early 20th century.
This church is built of stone quarried or found locally and has high steps leading up to the porch. It has a corrugated iron roof set on an unusual crossed truss support with a timber ceiling. Other features are arched head windows with stucco quoins and a simple colourful set of three glass windows. There are additions to the rear of the building that appear to be poorly executed. There is evidence of restoration to stonework having been carried out in recent times.
