This place is a representative example of the Inter-War California Bungalow architectural style. It has historic value for its association with McGilvray, a prominent local identity and Roads Board member.
Large brick and tile house of the distinctive 1920s 'Californian Bungalow' style design. Prominent double gabled fronts feature decorative half timbered detailing with a scroll 'gargoyle' at the peak. The wide front porch that extends across most of the elevated frontage has square brick columns with Egyptian type battered sides and a rendered brick balustrade. The porch is approached by four cement steps flanked by low brick walls. Windows are mostly narrow wood casements with diamond pane leading.
The house of Albert McGilvray, a prominent local identity who was a new resident in 1921. As an Industrialist, he quickly became a well known member of the Bayswater community and of the Roads Board. He was a long standing Chairman of the Board and founder of the Parents and Citizens Association. As far as can be ascertained from the planning application, this was one of the most expensive houses built in the district during the nineteen twenties.
