Physical Description

A single-storey commercial building designed in the Federation Free Classical style, c. 1890 - c. 1915. It has a pedimented parapet decorated with classical motifs and a canopy articulated with pedimented roof vents. Typical features that characterise the building's period are on the shopfronts, in the interior, and in its layout.

History

: 4-10 Burt Street was Everett's Ice Saloon. They were caterers around the turn of the century. Ardagh's took over the building around 1905 (Boulder's Hidden Secrets, 1993). The Insurance Plans for Boulder c. 1900 illustrate that Lot 59 had a two Butchers; Epstein Café and Samuel Pawnbroker in buildings constructed of brick. There was verandah that extended across the building facades and over the pavement, and three iron outbuildings at the rear.
