Statement of Significance

The place demonstrates a continuing association with the banking institution and confidence in the region. It is a fine architectural example of the period, and an integral element in the streetscape, and townscape character of Kulin.

Physical Description

The original building at the rear is a timber framed and weatherboard clad structure with a corrugated iron hipped roof. It included a banking office within the residence. In 1938 the banking facility was upgraded with an extension at the front of the then existing building. The 1938 structure is a brick construction with a hipped tiled roof. The frontage is classical in proportion with a central stepped parapet with stepped recessed arches into the double entry door and arched fanlight. The entry is flanked by a single window each side.

History

In 1926 the National Bank established an agency and residence in Kulin and other centres in the wheatbelt. At the end of the depression, the bank extended their facilities in Kulin, although in Kondinin, the original facility (like Kulin's) was not extended. The Kulin National Bank continues to function as the National Bank.
