Historical associations/fine example of large residential building of period in good condition/individual design

Physical Description

A two storey house with lower floor of limestone and upper of timber. Roof of corrugated iron. Very elegant colonial style house and in very good condition.

History

Assessment 1976 Construction completed 1910 Builders; Messrs John Muir (stonework) and Robert Donald (carpentry & timber work) Architect: Mr E Cohen Completed in 1920 for Mrs Capel Brockman widow of Edward Brockman of the Warren. After the death of Mrs Brockman the house was occupied by her daughter Miss Isobel Brockman and subsequently by her daughter-in -law Mrs Vernon Brockman, mother of Julius Brockman (present owner) A room was added behind the drawing room downstairs to accommodate the Hilward family who lived at beachgrove for a time after leaving the rectory
