Kulyaling townsite is of significance as an established town with a hotel and school (amongst other things?) represents the early development of the Shire of Brookton, and demonstrates a way of life no longer practiced.
The School site is identified and commemorated by a boulder with a plaque.
Westbrook, renamed Kulyaling in 1907, by 1915, the hotel had the licence transferred to the Club Hotel in Brookton. The school, opened in 1904 was closed and students relocated to Brookton in 1946.
