Statement of Significance

The site represents a way of life no longer practised, and a phase in the development of the region.

Physical Description

Mallee root sculpture identifies the entry to the townsite and a plaque commemorates the pioneers of the district.

History

The Lake Biddy townsite was formed from portion of SW Sandell's farm. The government resumed the land to form the townsite. The land was already cleared to cater for the railway yard, as the previous rail site was too uneven for the shunting yards. Two shops and several private houses, as well as Fettler"s houses made up the townsite as well as a school and town hall. A pioneer of the district has created a commemorative sculpture announcing the townsite.
