This place has historic significance. Mount Jackson was named by the explorer Gregory in 1846. A settlement developed in the Mt Jackson area after gold was found there in 1894. There were two hotels are the height of the gold rush period. Mt Jackson Station and homestead were developed around this time. Early owners were the Snooks and Atkinson families. The Atkinsons owned one of the first cars in the district, and ran the mail to Mt Jackson, with mixed success owing to the rough condition of the access roads. After 1917 the station was taken up by the Clarkson brothers, Edward and Samuel, who also had a station at Cue. The Clarksons ran cattle and horses and operated approx. one million acres of unimproved lands as the Mt Jackson Station. They traded as Lake Barlee Pastoral Co Ltd. Oral sources indicate that the property extended south to Golden Valley and East to Koolyanobbing. The Jacksons relinquished the station in the 1940s. When they left, a large kitchen table 9' x 6' was aquired by the Forresters at Minburra. Current owners of Mt Jackson are the Trurans family.
The Mount Jackson Homestead was constructed from stone taken from the nearby dam. (More information required). The current owners are undertaking repair work and restoration of the building, which has deteriorated over the years.
