House, 22 Hampton Road, is a single storey brick and tile house dating from c1950. The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical building stock located within the residential areas of Fremantle. It is historically significant as a representation of typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area. The place is an example of the Inter-War California Bungalow style of architecture.
Single storey rendered brick and tile hipped gable roof residence, set above and back from the pavement level, behind a low brick wall. The house has prominent limestone foundations, face brick bands across the façade and a garage underneath. There is a concrete roof over the veranda, with a decorative motif, supported by columns and metal balustrades across the veranda front and concrete front steps. The timber windows are casement and there are three French doors and a recessed timber and glass front door, entrance.
The street derives its name from John Stephen Hampton, the Governor from 1862-68, previously Comptroller of Convicts in Tasmania. His son, G. E. Hampton, was Acting Comptroller-General of the Fremantle Convict Establishment. Lot 3 of 818 was vacant in 1951/52 and owned by Antonia Mastrupasqua.
