This single storey painted brick and iron roofed cottage, in the Federation Queen Anne style, has cultural significance because: it has historical associations with Arthur and Christina Oliphant and Henrietta Drake-Brockman; it retains the basic character of its style and period and has a reasonable level of integrity; the place is important infill fabric; it is part of a cultural group based around the intersection of Venn and Keane Streets and is part of a wider townscape area in the western end of Keane Street;
The place was built for Arthur and Christina Oliphant in 1905 who lived there until 1925. Between 1930 and 1945 the house was owned and occupied by Henrietta DrakeBrockman, renowned novelist and playwright. Some historical significance.
The place retains the basic character and many of the details of the style and period. The form of the place addresses the intersection, through the diagonal comer bay. The place retains a reasonable level of integrity.
