Statement of Significance

The Bam is considered to be of considerable significance locally, and of some significance at the State level. It should be considered for entry into the State register of Heritage places.

Physical Description

The building adjoins the Lockier River and stands some 25m from the road reserve beyond a grove of eucalyptus where it is clearly visible to passers-by. The building measures 10.5m x 13m overall and comprises the main area of the barn, of stone construction under a corrugated iron gable roof, with two small rooms on the north side under a skillion roof, one with a fireplace. The building was partly restored in early 1994.

History

The Enanty Barn is one of the oldest extant buildings in the Mingenew district. It was constructed as an accommodation/storage outcamp for shepherds who walked in their flocks for annual washing (in the adjacent Lockier River), and shearing. The building was partly restored with a grant from the Heritage Council and by community effort during the celebration of Mingenew's Centennial Year in 1994 - an event that generated a widespread common interest in the history and heritage of the district and guaranteed future public use of the bam.

Integrity/Authenticity

Integrity: The wall fabric and basic form of the building is intact. Modifications: Doors changed, roof replaced, floor removed

Condition

Good (portion restored), fair (other)
