House, 37 Holland Street is a single storey brick and Colourbond house constructed in the Federation Bungalow style of Architecture. The walls are red tuck-pointed brick with white rendered bands at dado and head height. The roof is hipped and gabled and clad with Colourbond. There is a red brick and rendered corbelled chimney with two chimney pots evident. The verandah is under a continuous roof supported by turned and chamfered timber posts. The asymmetrical front façade has a front door with fan and side lights, and two timber framed double hung sash windows, as well as a side door entrance around the verandah return. The house is on limestone foundations. There is a low limestone fence to the front boundary line. A new two storey residence is at the rear.
The house at 37 Holland Street is on one half of Lot 1012 and was built in the 1914/15 rate period. The lot was originally owned by Arthur Graham Knox. The house was almost identical in plan form to the adjacent No. 35, which was owned by William Dobson Knox.
The owner and occupier in 1916 was Walter Lewis Mongan.
The house was originally number 48, and became number 37 when the whole street was renumbered in 1937.
The 1914 Sewerage Plan (No 2033) shows the outline of a house with a verandah that runs along the street front and wraps around on the east side. There was also a verandah at the back.
Matthew Owen was the main occupant from c1925 until at least 1949 (when post office directory records cease).
Aerial photos show that between 1995 and 199 the rear of the house was redeveloped and extended, however roofline of the original house was retained.
Condition assessed as good (assessed from streetscape survey only).
