The site and place demonstrate associations with generations of Babkin settlers as the social and cultural community centre for Babkin. The site represents a way of life no longer practised and the existing hall represents the future of tourism, The hall is integfral within the townscape and character of Babkin.
The bricks for the hall were made at the Bruce Rock Brickworks.
The original 1918 timber hall was burnt down in 1945. The hall was the focus of the community and social life in the Babakin communioty. The Roads Board constructed a new hall on the same site in 1955. Some finance was provided by the Babkin Progress Association and the balance was from the Bruce Rock Roads Board. It was opened by the Chairman of the Roads Board, JM Stewart, at 9.30pm Friday 16th April 1955. Tourist buses between Perth and Wave Rock st Hyden call regularly at the hall to receive country cooking and hospitality provided by a group of enterprising members of the community. The hall continues to be used by the Babkin community.
