Buckingham Family Residence, Shotts River Road, has cultural heritage significance for the following reasons:
• It is associated with James and Ernest Buckingham who established a mill at Buckingham in 1911.
Thomas Buckingham and his brother Alexander arrived in Australia in 1850. Alexander’s sons Ernest and James arrived in Collie in 1911 and opened a mill at Buckingham.
The place is thought to have been home to the Buckingham family. James and Ernest ran the mill at Buckingham from 1911 until 1954 when it was sold to the State Saw Mills.
