This tree is the last and only significant land mark where the old settlers and migrants lived in the early part of the century. These people were responsible for the maintenance of the railway line. Five houses were built on this site. They were made of sleepers in a vertical position with iron roofs. They were lined with a cement mixture and flattened kerosine tins. Migrants lived in tents and water supplied by trains from Lake Matilda to tanks along the railway line. The blue gum tree still provides shade for truck drivers who park in the area during grain season.
This is a fine example of an old blue gum tree. It is located in the parking area of a co-operative bulk handling area.
