The place is a representative example of the architectural improvisation of structures built to accommodate miners. The place has historic value for its representation of the development of the Australian goldfields and associated social conditions for miners. The place is historically significant for its relationship with mining operations that took place at Gwalia between 1898-1963, one of the most productive gold mines outside Kalgoorlie.
The place has a rear verandah covered with a lean-to roof. Outbuildings include what is believed to be an original W.C. and outbuildings that are in poor to fair condition. There is a fenced side garden.
The place has a new verandah, covered with a broken back roo£ supported by square steel posts, that surrounds the building on three sides.
In 1968, the verandah floor was covered in concrete and the roof re-lined. The place has been modernised, new aluminium framed windows and air conditioning has been installed.
