Statement of Significance

The site represents the social and historic significance of the Masons and the early settlers in Dangin.

History

In 1836 Stephen Parker took up a pastoral selection at Dangin Springs, and in 1859 his son Edward Read Parker settled on the selection. After ER Parker's death in 1905, his son Jonah Smith Wells Parker took over the Dangin property. Parker allotted a portion of his estate for a townsite and donated the land for most of the town's facilities including the Agricultural Hall where the first Dangin Masonic Lodge was consecrated and dedicated. The dedication was officiated by the Perth Archbishop Reverend Riley, on 13 November 1922. The two foundation members were PW Harrison and HP Walker. Members were keen to construct their own hall, and in 1925, the Masonic Hall was dedicated. The Masonic Hall site had originally been that of Claude McDonald's Saddlery shop. McDonald moved from the district after returning from World War One. In 1959 JR Keast moved the motion that Dangin Lodge Hall be removed to Quairading. In 1963 the hall was de-constructed, and most of the materials were incorporated in the new Masonic Hall in Quairading. Quairading Masonic Hall was dedicated on 11 April 1964 by F Gamblin of the Dangin 110 Lodge. The Clemens family including HH Clemens, his three sons and brother, were foundation member of the Lodge.
