Statement of Significance

The streetscape makes an important contribution to the townscape of Leonora. The single-storey shops retain their original configuration, parapets and verandah cover. Although some structures have been altered, the streetscape still conveys the essence of a goldrush town.

Physical Description

The streetscape extends the length of the street block that is bounded by trump Street to the south and Rajah Street to the north. The streetscape comprises eight, single-storey shops (including three shops in Site No. 21) and the Central Hotel (Site No. 3). The roofs of each shop feature a decorative pedimented parapet and a front verandah, the verandah roofs from a continuous canopy that extends the length of the street block. Most verandah roofs and roof supports have been replaced and much alteration has been made to the shopfronts.
Hie configuration of the shopfronts - straight shopfront at the building line with recessed entries has not been altered from their original layout. Some shopfronts retain original fanlights, rendered plinths and cast-iron metal columns to comer windows. Other shopfronts have new, large glazed panels and fanlights that have been boarded-over or over-painted. The interior of the shops have pressed metal ceilings and openings have been cut in the party walls through to adjacent shops. Some of the interiors have new dropped ceilings.
