History

The Corrigin CWA was formed on 12 Oct 1927, one week before the Wall St Stockmarket crash in New York which sparked the world wide depression. Mrs J Adams was the inaugural President. By 1930, the CWA was fundraising for distressed families in the Depression. Weekly meetings took place in the Town Hall ante room, and it was at such meetings that the Infant Health Clinic was instigated. In 1933, land for the CWA building was granted by the Lands Department, and vested in the Corrigin Roads Board. The CWA branch went into recess between 1933 and 1936. During 1937 and 1938, a Younger Set was active. The CWA became the caterers for numerous and various functions and responded to the war effort, all the time aware of their Rest Room Account. In 1951, the Rest Rooms were opened by the State President of the CWA, having cost £3100. In 1958, two new rooms and shower facilities were added to the existing building. Service groups and clubs used the facility as a meeting room. In 1964 the Corrigin Rotary Club held their first meeting in the CWA rooms.
