Part of a precinct of small shops along the highway that demonstrate a form of commercial building that was typical of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Decades of use and minor renovations have not changed the basic form of these shops. The row between Stuart and Glyde Streets is intact and the significance of the whole group is of primary importance.
Part of precinct of similar small shops along highway and around corners. Building on corner of Stuart Street. High, decorative, rendered masonry facade with corrugated metal awning which extends around to Stuart Street shops. Aluminium framed doors and windows. Carpet and new ceiling in op shop (596). Concrete slab pavement. Across the highway is the railway station.
