The place is notable as an early site in the business and commercial development of the
town of Woodanilling.
The site is believed to be east of the Baptist Church fronting Robinson Road. Nothing
remains of the building. A medium sized wandoo tree marks the approximate site of the
building.
During the First World War, Baldwin and Son were advertising as Saddlers, Harness and
Collar makers at both Katanning and Woodanilling
At one public meeting reported in 1916 many speakers including Buzz Wilhelm, Coate,
Dival and Carter criticised the decision to revert Woodanilling Station back to siding
status due to the shortage of staff. Mr Patterson, the chairman, seemed bored and wanted
to close the meeting, but the speakers kept on.
E Dival stated, "that Woodanilling was now in a state of decay. It had a coffee shop, a
saddler's shop, three stores now only two and had a bank - now only a receiving office ".
Dival blamed the farmers for not doing their business in town.
It is likely that the saddlers shop closed around this time.
