Significant but not essential to an understanding of the history of the district: photographically recorded prior to any major redevelopment or demolition.

Statement of Significance

The site is significant due to its association with the development of the town of
Woodanilling.

Physical Description

This site is about 30 metres east of Robinson Road and about 100 metres north east of the
first town dam. A depression in the ground and nearby are remnants of axe hewn timber
troughs.

History

Water for the town of Woodanilling was obtained from soak and wells before the
construction of the Government dam. The main soak was at the south end of the railway
yard and dirt tanks were dug at the northern end of the yard and filled from railway
tankers. The tanks had jarrah sleeper tops and on one occasion one of Sarah Bell's cows
fell through the sleepers and had to be lifted out.
