Statement of Significance

The bridge was one of three bridges in a timber haulage tramway built in 1871/72 by Mason, Bird & Co.
The bridge lies within a gazetted road reserve (Hardinge Road). It is in excellent condition, having just recently been fully restored. The jarrah decking has been replaced but most of the stringers and the wandoo piles below are original. it is not open to vehicle traffic.

The bridge is an important element of the Mason & Bird Heritage Trail.

The bridge is important both as one of the few existing relics of this early W.A . enterprise and for its status among the timber bridges of Australia.

Physical Description

The site comprises a timber bridge, with its approaches, over Munday Brook close to its junction with Bickley brook. The bridge is a sawn timber stringer and driven timber pile structure of four spans with a timber deck and stone pitched embankments . What is believed to be a convict worker's mark is carved in one timber.
