The site represents the railway line which was vital to the future of the region.
When the railway from the Lake Grace railhead to the Newdegate end of line was constructed and completed in 1926, Lake Biddy Siding was the centre for the railway maintenance gang. The fettlers were stationed at Lake Biddy until 1963 when they relocated to Newdegate.
The first fettlers cottage was built by the first ganger, Atkins. It was built of railway sleepers and corrugated iron. They were located east of the town railway crossing.
