History

The Narembeen Kindergarten committee was formed at the instigation of Mrs Debra Watkins, the then School Headmaster's wife, in 1961. The inaugural meeting took place in the CWA rooms on 14 March 1961 with Mrs Watkins elected as the foundation President. The kindergarten commenced operations at the CWA, but as the CWA also had to serve other organisations and the public, they could not authorise the ongoing use of that premises. The Kindergarten relocated to the RSL Hall and operated from there until 1964.. When the Kindergarten left, the RSL returned the entire rent money for the benefit of the kindergarten. In 1964, the kindergarten moved to the supper room of the Masonic Lodge and fundraising for a building continued in earnest. Annual cabarets have been conducted since 1961 to fundraise for a building.
