Statement of Significance

The place comprises representative examples of the architectural improvisation of structures built to accommodate miners. The place has historic value for its representation of the development of the Australian goldfields and associated social conditions for miners. The place is historically significant for its relationship with mining operations that took place at Gwalia between 1898-1963, one of die most productive gold mines outside Kalgoorlie.

Physical Description

The Lot comprises nine dwellings of which there are six relocated structures, by Sons of Gwalia Mining Company, including "Little Pink Camp', a reconstructed miner's hut that was relocated in 1988, from its original location in the group of huts south of the State Hotel. The hut has iron decoration above the wall openings, and three rooms. Also included on the Lot is 'White House1. This dwelling has a central passage, four rooms - two either side, an enclosed rear verandah with a concrete floor, and an enclosed front verandah.
