House, 96A Forrest Street is a single storey timber and iron house constructed as a simple variation of the Federation Bungalow style of Architecture. The walls are timber framed and clad with timber weatherboards. The roof is hipped and corrugated iron clad. The front verandah sits under an extension of the main roof, although at a different pitch. The verandah is supported by chamfered timber posts. The front façade has a timber entry door and three timber casement windows. The place has a painted timber picket front boundary fence and timber gate.
Numbers were allocated in c1915, but this house can be traced to 1906 and the first resident, James Wren. The house was originally No. 173. It became number 96 when the whole street was renumbered in 1939.
A long-term resident from c1930 was John Grimshaw. Mrs Jean Grimshaw was still a resident in 1949 (when post office directory records cease).
The 1911 sewerage map (No. 2133) shows a timber house with a full-length front verandah, a rear verandah and a galvanised iron building near to the east boundary in the back yard. The house is set closer to the street than No. 94.
Aerial photos show that between 1981 and 1985 a large area attached to the house at the rear was roofed. By 1995 this has been removed and redeveloped, the house reroofed, and a new house built at the rear of the subdivision lot. This resulted in the house number changing to 96A.
