Aesthetically significant as an example of Fremantle’s vernacular architecture. Typical single storey cottage dating from the first decades of the twentieth century. Historically significant as a representation of working people’s living conditions in the Fremantle area. Has undergone significant alterations but original form remains intact.
Single storey limestone house with brick quoining to window and door openings and a zincalume hipped roof with two brick chimneys. The front room has a gable with decorative timber work and the dropped verandah returns on the south side and is supported by timber posts.
McCleery Street was named after John McCleery, a Fremantle merchant and auctioneer from 1879 to 1889. He died in 1911.
House, 7a McCleery Street was first recorded in 1910, however physical inspection indicates that the house was probably built prior to this date.
