Physical Description

Strathmore Hill NT1 (356.3 metres) is the largest peak of a range known as the Hemstead
Hills. It is situated to the SW of Boyaminning.

A summit runs NE/SW to the north of the Link Road and continuing this line of hills to

This range of hills rises above the plains of the Carrolup River. Generally it is an
ironstone formation still covered by some vegetation.

History

The range of hills was named Hemstead by Surveyor General John Septemus Roe and
Beaufort.

On 20 December 1835, Roe and his party camped on the side of Hemstead Hills. Dr
Hemstead, after whom the range of hills was named, was the physician at Newbury,
Roe's birth place in England.
