· This group of· terrace houses ·and ·shop··manifest -a· significant architectural character. -The group has real potential for recycling as housing with landscaped spaces between terraces. The environmental component of the streetscape is important.
The terraces on South Terrace date from c.l890 and are constructed in stone with brick facades to the street. Verandahs along the whole street front are built on the --_,,boundary _ and, raised:::half , ,a, .floor above the pavement level. ·
The houses are two-storied at the rear. Corrugated iron roofs, prominent chimneys and ·distinctive timber balustrading are characteristic of the Victorian architectural expression of the l88O's and 1890’s. '
, The ·terraces at the rear probably date from 188O. These' two buildings are constructed in single-storied stonework with corrugated galvanised iron roofs and verandahs across the main facade.
All buildings are in need of extensive renovations to resolve problems of dampness and deterioration to replace missing decorative features.
Assessment 1980: assessed as a group of four buildings at nos 79 – 93 South Terrace.
