Statement of Significance

The original house (Woopenatty Homestead) on the property was built by Charles Campbell c.1885. Some of the materials from this house were used to construct Earra Homestead which was built for Howard and Elizabeth Jane Smith in 1929. Italian stonemasons were employed to construct the house and this is evident from the use of the stone and the mortaring. (Source: A. McAleer).

Physical Description

Large house of stone and decorative mortaring construction with a hipped roof that spreads to cover the surrounding wide verandahs. There is a single timber balustrade which runs between 7" x 7" decorative timber posts which support the verandah roof. The entrance is via seven concrete steps up to the verandah. A gable roof enhances the entrance, stucco is used as the infill of the gable. The single entry door has a distinctive octagonal window divided into nine panes. This window style is repeated on the side windows of the entry porch as well as internal doors. There are french doors to the east and west verandahs. Floors to the verandah and internally are jarrah, boards being polished inside. The internal joinery is oiled jarrah. The brick chimneys are tall and corbelled and have a rectangular terracotta pot above. A timber post and rail fence surrounds the garden. There is a small cottage and garage to the rear.
