Yanchep War Memorial has historical and social significance as a structure commemorating the
contribution of servicemen and women from the Wanneroo district in World War I, World War II,
Korea, Malaya and Vietnam.
During the 1930s Yanchep Inn was constructed as part of a group of buildings for use as a resort
complex. The inn was leased from 1973 - 1992 to John Hearn. During this time the Yanchep War
Memorial was erected (City of Wanneroo) The Yanchep/Two Rocks Sub-Branch of the RSL was
formed in the 1977 and began with services in Two Rocks until the Yanchep War Memorial was
constructed in 1979. The memorial was built by the members of the Sub-Branch using donated
materials and under the supervision of committee member Mr L. Neave. The memorial was located in
the then Memorial Garden of the Yanchep National Park. The War Graves Commission donated a
large bronze memorial plaque depicting all the badges/emblems of the services. This plaque was later
stolen. With the assistance of a Grant from the City of Wanneroo Bicentennial Trust Fund, a new
memorial plaque was designed and installed on the Memorial. The Memorial was re-dedicated on
Anzac Day 2001. (Two Rocks/Yanchep Sub Branch RSL)
Yanchep War Memorial is located to the east and front of Yanchep Inn within Yanchep National Park.
The memorial which faces the inn is approached via a brick path which also continues as a circular
path surrounding the rock garden at the rear of the memorial. The memorial is constructed from stone
and has a brass plaque with a crucifix above. An Australian flag and pole are sited on the north side of
the memorial. The plaque on the memorial reads; "in memory of those servicemen and women who
passed this way and paid the supreme sacrifice in the First and Second World Wars Korea - Malaya -
Vietnam. Lest We Forget."
