The former railway station, now only a site, has historical, social and cultural significance in that
the railway greatly widened opportunities for the district both economically and socially, greatly reducing the communities dependence on horse and dray and mailcoach. The station would have been a central point in the town and the first point of contact for any visitors to the town and region.
