The City of Fremantle has identified this place as being of some cultural heritage significance for its contribution to the heritage of Fremantle in terms of its individual or collective aesthetic, historic, social or scientific significance, and /or its contribution to the streetscape, local area and Fremantle. Its contribution to the urban context should be maintained and enhanced.

Physical Description

Single storey house has rendered walls and a Zincalume hipped roof has a chimney and is semi hidden by vegetation and the front fence. There is a bull nosed verandah supported by turned timber posts and balustrades.

History

Lot 12 of 993 is recorded as a vacant lot before 1900. Joseph S Thomas is listed as living in a house in this location from 1900, which is allocated the number 21 in 1905. The house became number 10 when the whole street was renumbered in 1937.
The 1914 Sewerage Plan (No 2033) shows a weatherboard house with a small projecting part to the wall on the west end of the front verandah, and a long set of centrally placed steps down into the front yard. There are some galvanised iron outbuildings in the back yard.
Thomas lived at No. 10 until c1915, followed by various occupants. A long-term one was Frederick C Moulding who was the main occupant from c1935 to at least 1949 (when post office directory records cease).
A black and white photo taken in 1990 and notes from a survey done by D. Hutchinson are on file. (LHC Blue File).
