Statement of Significance

The place represents a way of life associated with the Catholic community. It is the only remaining buildingin the Kwolyin town site.

Physical Description

Red brick construction with a red clay tile roof. The gable at the front is replicated by the entry portico.

History

Catholic Mass was celebrated in the Kwolyin Hall from the early days of the Kwolyin sttlement. Local parishioners raised sufficient monies to facilitate the construction of a Catholic Church. The local community assisted in the construction of the place. It was openend by Reverend JJ Rafferty, the Bishop of Pharan, on the 18th December 1955. Regular Sunday services were held at the church until May 1976. Since then it has been used for Baptisms of local and ex-local's children. The parish Priest from Bruce Rock still has a Midday Mass on the 5th Sunday of every month.
