Statement of Significance

The place demonstrates associations with pioneers and the settlement of the Quairading area. The businesses that have been conducted from the place reflect the development phases of the region. The place demonstrates an architectural aesthetic of significance. It contributes to the main-streetscape of Quairading.

Physical Description

The shop front has the original brass glazing fittings in place and a row of lead light stained glass panels above the shop windows. The roof is a gable fronted parapet with a skillion verandah over the pavement supported by square timber columns. The roof is corrugated iron.

History

Albert Eaton took up 100 acres at "Nulyeening" in 1892. - He continued to live with his parents who lived at Youngedin outpost where his father was the mounted constable. In 1898, he settled on his land with his wife and children, and left to work on the Kalgoorlie pipeline. In 1902 he took up more land and settled permanently. During the war years (WW1), Bert was Kimberley Forrest's driver and mechanic at Cubbine. By 1928 Bert was selling cars and trucks, selling 16 cars and 14 trucks in 1928, although by 1930, he only sold 1 car, with no other sale until 1935.
