Statement of Significance

The Roebuck Bay Hotel is legendary and has always been a social and cultural focal point in Chinatown.

Its use as a hotel in Chinatown gives it both historical and social importance.

Physical Description

The building is single storey, timber framed and iron-clad. Extensive interior alterations and surrounding additions were made in the 1980s.

History

The original hotel built in 1888 was destroyed by fire and rebuilt in 1904 by the pioneer traders Newman Goldstein and Co.
