Statement of Significance
The place is a representative example of the architectural improvisation of structures built to accommodate miners. The place has historic value for its representation of the development of the Australian goldfields and associated social conditions for miners. The place is historically significant for its relationship with mining operations that took place at Gwalia between 1898-1963, one of the most productive goldmines outside Kalgoorlie.
Physical Description
The cottage has lean-to additions across the front and rear elevations. The front verandah with a concrete floor and timber lattice screens, has been reconstructed and relined with fibro-cement sheeting.
The interior comprises three rooms with additional two rooms under the rear enclosure, one of which contains a chimney. The interior of the cottage has timber floors throughout and is lined with cloth and cgi cladding. Since 1985, the place has been re-roofed and the cladding secured on the north wall. Doors and windows have also been secured.
