The structure is significant in representing the community support for and commemoration of those who fought for Australia during times of war.
A concrete block pillar is situated each side of a wrought iron gate which opens into the sports ground. A smaller pillar each side of the larger pillar is connected by a chain mesh fence with a central gate each side. The concrete blocks have a distinctive pattern. Each large pillar has a plaque in the shape of shield attached to it.
The entrance pillars and gate were constructed after World War Two as a commemoration of those who fought for Australia. George Hatton was the manager of the Co-op and actively involved with the RSL, and was instrumental in organising the pillars and gates. The concrete blocks were made by various members of the community, as Alan Brockwell's concrete block mould was passed around for people to make their own building materials for their homes. The CWA nad Agricultural hall were also constructed fof the same bricks.
