Statement of Significance

Notable as a very early settlement site in the Williams area and the original selector, Michael Quinn
was a prominent citizen in the district for many years (1860-1903). (1)

Physical Description

Located approx 12 kms SE of Williams, about 2 kms south of Glenfield Road. The store was
probably the original homestead and converted to a storage place for rations etc for the shepherds
employed by Quinn.
The brick east and west walls and chimneys are intact, however the roof frame has collapsed. The
south wall has disintegrated and the north wall has had corrugated iron attached.
The store is almost adjoining the rear (east and uphill) of the current Glenfield homestead.

History

Quinn was a pastoralist who had lease holdings as far afield as the Beaufort River. (2) Rations
were delivered to the shepherds on a regular basis as they were unable to leave their flocks of sheep.
A secure building (from the weather and pilfering) was needed to store these rations, which were;
replenished on an occasional basis with a wagon returning from Perth or Bunbury after delivering a
load of wool or sandalwood.
Quinn's sons, Owen and Stephen, often undertook the shepherding in company with others. (3)
