Statement of Significance

The place demonstrates a way of life associated with rural women and the CWA. The place contributes to the main street streetscape and the townscape character of Newdegate.

Physical Description

Timber framed cottage with fibro-cement clad walls. The corrugated iron gable roof forms a skillion verandah at break pitch, across the frontage. The verandah is enclosed each side, forming a central entry porch with a recessed central entry door.

History

In May 1936, the Newdegate branch of the Country Women's Association was formed. In 1938, the Rest room was opened. The Anglican ministers held services in the Hall (original) or the CWA rooms until their church was opened in 1962. It has been the venue of the regular CWA meetings in Newdegate since that time.
