Statement of Significance

House, 239 South Street, is a single storey brick and tile house dating from c1930s. The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is historically significant as a representation of typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area.

Physical Description

House, 239 South Street is a single storey brick and tile house constructed in the c1930s. The walls are red brick. The roof is hipped and gabled and clad with tiles. The gable has decorative brickwork to the top. There is a red brick chimney evident. The verandah is under the main tiled roof at a different pitch, supported by brick pillars with a wrought iron balustrade. The asymmetrical front façade has a protruding front room under the gable roof with a window and no awning. Under the verandah roof is the main door. There is another window on the other side. Both windows are not original. The house is situated above street level on limestone foundations. There is a face brick wall to the front boundary line.

History

The rate books list this as a vacant lot in 1924-5.
