House, 14 Livingston Street is a single storey timber and zincalume house with a symmetrical facade designed as a late example of the Victorian Georgian style of architecture. The walls are painted timber weatherboards to dado height and fibrous cement sheeting above. The roof is hipped and clad with zincalume, and has exposed rafters. There is a red face brick chimney evident. The façade is symmetrical with a central front door flanked on either side by timber framed windows with decorative architraves. The verandah is under a continuous zincalume roof supported by timber posts and an infilled balustrade. The house is elevated from the street. There is no fence to the front boundary line.
14 Livingston Street was constructed for King Horace Leslie Watson in 1935, and occupied by him. It was a weatherboard cottage and cost £175. Watson, a plumber, continued to own and occupy the place until at least the 1950s.
An undated limestone retaining wall that wraps the Livingston-Beard Streets corner of the lot is noted in a survey of nineteenth century limestone walls and steps in Fremantle.
A 1978 photograph of the place shows the house as a fibrous-cement clad cottage with half-gabled corrugated iron roof. The verandah is supported on simple timber poles and has fibrous cement sheeting as a low verandah wall. A free-standing shed or garage with corrugated iron roof is evident to the rear of the house.
A 1993 photograph shows the place virtually unchanged from 1978.
High degree of integrity (original intent clear, current use compatible, high long term sustainability).
Medium degree of authenticity with some original fabric remaining.
(These statements based on street survey only).
