· The place is rare as one of only a few remaining purpose-built picture theatres in the South West.
· The place provided social and recreational functions to the residents of the township during the growth of Pemberton following the expansion of timber milling activities in the 1920s.
· The place has landmark value due its elevated situation above the main commercial area of Pemberton.
· The place has aesthetic value due to its imposing façade, its massing and its positioning on an elevated site.
· The place is representative of the vernacular architectural style applied to many rural halls in Western Australia and is representative of the use of local materials to construct these halls.
The place is on an elevated quarter acre block, approximately 100m up the hill from Brockman Street. The building fronts the north side of Ellis Street and its two storey facade is an imposing feature on the street. A landscaped car parking area is located to the east, on Guppy Street. The building is a double volume timber frame and dark weatherboard structure with a red colorbond gabled roof, asymmetrical projecting front gabled entry, and timber sash windows. Simple skillion roofed enclosures are located along the eastern elevation and define the individual apartment entrances.
The Pemberton Picture Theatre was constructed in 1932 by Mr Allan Jones, the travelling picture show operator from Busselton. Prior to the construction of the picture theatre, films were shown in the Mill Hall, however Jones had a dispute with the Mill Hall Management Committee who he felt cancelled his picture shows in favour of any other hall bookings.
