History

Historic Landgate aerial photographs show that the existing house brick and tile house and limestone retaining walls on the site were constructed between 1953 and 1965. Prior to this time the site was part of a large area of vacant land.
This place was identified in the "Heritage Report on 19th century limestone walls and steps in Fremantle" prepared by Silvana Grassadonia, for the City of Fremantle, 1986.
The use of limestone is part of the Fremantle landscape and gives the City coherence and character. Limestone walls were built around properties in Fremantle to prevent sand drift in response to an early building regulation dating from the 1830s. Limestone walls are one commonly encountered example of use of this stone as a building material, most of them dating from the 19th century and early years of the 20th century. Most of the limestone in small walls came from local quarries.
The place was added to the Fremantle Municipal Inventory in 2000 and the Heritage List in 2008. In a review in 2010 it was recommended that the place be removed from the Heritage List because it was below the threshold for inclusion on the list.
In 2023 the heritage listing for this place was reviewed as part of the Annual Update of The Heritage List and Local Heritage Survey. On 13 March 2024 Council resolved to remove this place from the Heritage List and to change the Local Heritage Survey Management Category to Level 4 Historic Record Only.
